Meet Richard and Magda

Richard and Magda fell in love while doing mission work in Guatemala and have been married for 24 years. Together, they have raised four children and spent those 24 years in pastoral ministry, serving alongside people and families who are often most in need. Rooted Together is a natural extension of that lifelong work. Today, they are focusing their energy on their own neighborhood—investing in teens and families, building relationships, creating opportunities, and helping people connect and flourish in community.


Magda is an artist and teacher who brings creativity and culture into that work through community art workshops, especially with Latino families. Through art, she creates spaces where people can connect with one another, celebrate their heritage, and remain connected to the traditions, stories, and culture of their motherlands. Together, Richard and Magda believe that when people are known, encouraged, and rooted in community, they have the opportunity to flourish.

Rooted Together strengthens individuals, families, and communities by cultivating belonging, opportunity, and connection through mentoring, education, arts and culture, community-building, and charitable assistance.

Why Rooted Together

Rooted Together is a community-based nonprofit serving Providence, Rhode Island, and surrounding communities.
We work especially with immigrant and multilingual families, young people, and individuals experiencing economic hardship. We create spaces where people can learn, create, connect, and receive support.

Our work grows from a simple belief:
People flourish when they know they belong.

We want to help build communities where people are welcomed, valued, equipped, and able to contribute their gifts to the lives of others.

Our Programs

Education

We create opportunities for children, young people, adults, and families to learn and grow. Our educational activities may include:

  • Tutoring and mentoring

  • Literacy support

  • Educational workshops

  • Family education

  • Youth and Leadership development

  • Partnerships with schools and community organizations

Our goal is not simply to provide information, but to help people discover their abilities, develop confidence, and find new opportunities.

Arts and Culture

Rooted Together provides accessible opportunities for people to create, learn, and share through the arts. Programs may include:

  • Community printmaking workshops

  • Youth art programs

  • Creative workshops

  • Cultural events

  • Exhibitions

  • Community art projects

We believe creative expression gives people a way to tell their stories, share their cultures, and build relationships with others.

Community

Rooted Together creates spaces where people can come together. We organize and support:

Benevolence

Sometimes people simply need someone to help them get through a difficult season. Rooted Together provides limited charitable assistance to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. Depending on available resources and demonstrated need, assistance may help with:

  • Food

  • Utilities

  • Transportation

  • Educational needs

  • Emergency household expenses

  • Other essential needs

Assistance is provided according to charitable guidelines and available resources, with the goal of helping people navigate difficult circumstances with dignity.
